This page covers the install of the MAC Intake for 2.3 dohc Ford Rangers, Part #
3123.
It's a perfect replacement for the ugly stock airbox, and it
does provide much better airflow. I recommend it to anyone who ,
wants more from their engine.
| Stock
exhaust. Notice the A/C hose wraps around the air box
| Notice the resonators or
"warts" on the stock exhaust. These reduce sound and
soak up lots of heat. | |
| Here's a close up of the
resonators. | |
| The big
resonator has it's own aluminum bracket to support it.
The bracket can be reused to support the power steering
reservoir, or can be removed.
| Here's
the engine with the intake system removed.
| Here's where
the factory air box was located. Notice that the A/C
hose will rotate, so that you can remove the air box.
|
| The stock
MAF is removed from the stock intake and bolted to the
MAC intake bracket. Here's a shot of the 2.3 dohc MAF.
| Push the MAF and MAC
adaptor plate into the stock air box mounting holes
(picture missing) Then clamp the intake pipe to the
engine. | |
| Now attach
the intake pipe to the MAF adaptor, and clamp on the
filter. | |
| Connect the
stock PCV pipe into the gasket on the MAC intake. You
need to pull this pipe out of the factory intake if you
forgot when you removed the intake.
| The wiring for the MAF
attaches to the flanges in the MAC intake.
| Tighten all 5 clamps, and move A/C hose back into
position. | |
| The bracket
from the big resonator is attached around the power
steering pump, so I need to get shorter bolts to remove
it. I'll leave it attached for now.
| The filter
that comes with the MAC system is called "Racers Choice"
and is a long life renewable filter. I find it to be a
bit flimsy as compared to a K&N. It has a lifetime
warranty, so we'll see.
| This was a picture
without the throttle cover. We wanted to see if it
looked better without it.
| |
|
|
| The overall results were
very good, and for $140 you can't beat the price.
